From Aspiring Engineer to Attorney: A Unique Journey
This month, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Peter Inman, one of our dedicated attorneys here at McNeelyLaw.
Peter’s path to law wasn’t a straightforward one. As a student at Purdue, he initially planned to become an electrical engineer. Before long, he realized that while he enjoyed the complexities of problem-solving, he didn’t want to spend his life just doing complex math. This led him to switch to a sociology degree with a focus on law, ultimately steering him toward a career that combines his love for logical reasoning and structured argumentation.
Building Success and Fulfillment
Peter began his legal career at a small firm in Kokomo, where he was one of just four attorneys. This early experience deepened his appreciation for a close-knit work environment. Despite McNeelyLaw being larger, he immediately felt at home in its welcoming atmosphere, which has greatly contributed to his success at the firm.
At McNeelyLaw, Peter primarily works in family law, but his practice areas also extend to probate litigation and general civil litigation. His background also includes experience in federal civil litigation involving constitutional law from his time at the Indiana Attorney General’s office. What he finds most fulfilling in his legal work is making a difference in his clients’ lives. Whether it’s securing more time for a parent with their child or ensuring that the legal system isn’t used as a tool for harassment, his dedication to his clients is evident.
Life Beyond the Courtroom
Outside of the office, Peter’s life is just as vibrant. He’s been married to his wife, Heather, since October 15, 2016. Together, they have a beloved dog named The Captain, a borgi (border collie/corgi mix) they rescued from a shelter in Mishawaka six years ago. Peter is a self-described “big old nerd” who enjoys Dungeons & Dragons—a shared passion that was one of the first things he and Heather bonded over—along with board games, video games, and painting miniatures. Peter also has a musical side! He plays the saxophone, bass guitar, and drums, though not as often has he’d like. Check out some photos from Peter’s life below:
